DIY Home Sensory Activity: DIY Animal Rescue

Updated: Aug 24, 2021

OVERVIEW

Prep time: 5 minutes

Difficulty: Easy

Estimated Cost: 20 AED

Mess level: Medium

Age: 1 year plus

What you need:

  • Large bowl

  • Animals (small figurines)

  • Spoon

  • Food colouring

Instructions:

Add water to a bowl, mix food colouring, add animals and then get your little one to scoop out.

Benefits:

  • Building your child's imagination, get them to build mini worlds and situations/scenarios.

  • Strengthens fine motor skills.

  • Educate your child and talk about different animals and scenarios.

Ways to adapt:

  • You can freeze the water to make it harder to get the animals out and use different tools to do so

  • Swap the water for another element eg: rice, sand and hide the animals/figures within. (Better for little ones)

  • Hide items/figurines in play dough

  • Swap the animals with letters and when finding each letter get them to sound it out and say a word beginning with the same letter.

  • You could also swap the water with tape and tape animals (with masking tape) to a tray/table and get your child to set them free.

  • Get your child to wrap the animals in elastic bands and then free them.

  • Tie rope/fabric over the top of a laundry basket and place objects within and get your child to extract them (again better for little one)
