Updated: Aug 24, 2021

Prep time: 2 minutes

Difficulty: Easy Peasy

Estimated Cost: 20 AED

Mess level:

Age: 2 plus

What you need

  • Examples of objects to gather include

  • Hairbands

  • Lego

  • Figurines

  • Coins

  • Bath Toys etc

Grab any small house hold items of different colours and place in a basket to encourage your child to sort

Sorting objects, matching shapes, colours and then pictures help's build visual perception and thinking skills.

Children can generally sort into colours before they can identify the name of the colours.

Learning to categories and classify helps memory skills.

Top tip:

If you don't have many coloured objects you can just cut out pieces of coloured paper

Other easy objects you can use to colour sort:

  • Kids coloured food pouch lids

  • Pipe cleaners

  • Pom pom (come in all different shapes and sizes and can be used for DIY activities when they get older.)

  • Play dough

  • Coloured ice cubes

  • Plastic coloured egg cups

  • Lego

  • Magna tiles
