Mix equal parts of glue and shaving foam and in separate containers add food colour dye, you can then get your child to mix and see the colour transformation and get them to paint however they like.
This activity creates curiosity in children and enables them to reflect on what they are doing, developing a love of learning and encouraging them to take the initiative. To extend the activity, use multiple trays with different colour and swap the trays so the colours can mix together.
Ask the children discovery questions, “what does it feel/smell/sound like? Can you squish it through your fingers? What happens when the colours mix?”
An amazing, messy, sensory experience that uses all five senses of touch, sight, smell, sound and even taste (though tasting is not encouraged!)
The mix of the paint colours as they dip their hands from one tray to the next is what amazes children the most with this.
It is a textural wonderland that changes and reforms in your hands.
Adding colour enables swirls and patterns to form and burying and hiding toys in the foam adds to the sense of discovery and play.
Shaving cream encourages children to manipulate and mould materials, building their fine motor skills and coordination.
Encourage children to get their whole body involved - They can learn how to refine their fine motor skills by using the muscles in their fingers, wrists, arms, toes and shoulders to make small movements in the foam.
