Prep time: 2 minutes
Difficulty: Easy Peasy
Estimated Cost: Free
Mess level: Medium
What you need:
Assembled a tray of spices for your little one to explore.
Try spices that don’t have sharp flavors (like peppers), since we opened and smelled and touched some of them.
Depending on your time/space/mess levels you can keep the spices in the bottles and just open lids one by one or you can open and place on a tray as per above.
This activity develops senses of smell, touch, taste, hearing, helps them understand rhythm and it’s a great sensory awareness training.
Ways to adapt:
Encourage your little one to shake the spice bottles - they can check the sounds that different bottles make.
You can also make patterns with the different spices ie the leaves. and cinnamon sticks etc.
You can mix the spices with yogurt to create paint and use it to paint on paper.
