  • Funnel

  • Googley eyes

  • Pipe cleaners

  • Coloured paper

Instructions

Insert funnel into the balloon opening.

Pour rice into the balloon until it is full.

Tie off the end.

Place the balloon with rice into a second balloon and tie the end off.

Decorate!

Notes

Store air-tight container in cool room for long-lasting use.

Benefits:

When children feel anxious and stressed they can use this tool to help calm and self-regulate. The idea of a stress ball is to encourage children to focus on something other than what is making them anxious. This activity is simple and offers an alternative to the adult version of the same tool.

Ways to adapt:

  • Add different items inside the balloons. Pasta will make a rough sound, sand will make the sound softer, so too will flour. Have children cut small holes in the second balloon so they see the two colours.

  • Decorate in different ways
